Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for Thyroid Nodule and Hyperthyroidism



The patient 

Mid aged female patient presented with difficulty in breathing, swelling glands with difficulty in swallowing, fast heart beat that prevented her from sleeping at night, toothache with very sensitive gums, swollen eyes, painful acne spots on the scalp and body. Scans and blood tests revealed 3.5cm nodule and high T4 level. Patient was feeling weak and had high level of anxiety. Her temperature was also at around 37.5 constantly. 

Treatment and outcome 

Patient received weekly acupuncture treatments took herbal medicine at the same time. After two weeks, her heart rate reduced from 100 to 85 and was able to sleep at night. Her appetite returned at week 3, symptoms of swollen eyes and neck disappeared by week 5, toothache and sensitive gums stopped in week 6. A further blood tests confirmed her T4 level had returned to normal level.
