Acupuncture and herbal medicine for Eczema


Patient presented with itchy, painful and weepy Eczema on left inner ankles and was generally feeling rundown. He also had a blocked right ear. Patient reported poor quality of sleep despite sleeping for 8 hours at night. 

Patient received weekly acupuncture treatment whilst took herbal medicine at the same time without any other additional medication. Dietary and lifestyle advice was also given to facilitate treatment. 

Outcome

Patient's skin completely healed. He no longer complained of a blocked ear and was sleeping much better.


Skin condition is very often related with stress, diet and digestive issues. A good prognosis can be expected after treatment if patients are able to follow the dietary advice given and attend recommended treatment sessions.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine for infertility


 The patient 

Healthy female in her 20s has been trying naturally for 5 years without success. Her and her partner have a healthy diet, exercise regularly and all their fertility tests showed results within the normal range. Patient came for treatment to support her first round of funded IVF cycle. 


The treatment

A full diagnostic consultation revealed areas that needed to be strengthened through treatment. Dietary and lifestyle advice was given to improve health, help boost fertility and relieve impact of stress. It is very understandable for patients to want to start their IVF cycle as soon as possible after trying for a long time, however it is highly advisable to allow time to regulate menstrual cycle and improve body condition first for the best outcome. Patient took this on board and received ten weekly sessions of acupuncture alongside herbal medicine at the same time targeting different stages of her cycle. Overall improvement was felt on digestion, quality of sleep, energy and fertility signs. 


The outcome

Patient had a positive natural conception pregnancy test just days before her IVF cycle was about to start. 


There has been an increased number of young healthy females having to go through IVF cycle to get pregnant. Through closely monitored acupuncture and herbal medicine treatment alongside dietary and lifestyle changes, it is very possible to achieve natural pregnancy and to prepare the body for successful  assisted pregnancy.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine for Labyrinthitis

Male patient in mid 30s presented with sudden onset of Labyrinthitis. Patient was working on the computer when it happened and started feeling dizzy and spinning. He immediately lay dow on the floor to avoid falling and called for help. 

NHS 111 GP diagnosed him as having Labyrinthitis and prescribed him with Cyclizine tablets. Patient could not get out of bed without feeling severe spinning in the head. Patient was generally healthy and had no previous medical history before the attack. 

A session of acupuncture was administered on patient and one week's supply of herbal medicine was prescribed. Patient gradually felt less dizzy and was completely symptom free after two weeks.

Acupuncture for Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) during IVF

 The patient

Patient was identified having Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) after taking fertility medication in the first round of IVF cycle. Patient started having headaches, poor sleep, abdominal swelling/tenderness, bloating, emotional disturbances alongside other gynaecological symptoms and excess water over one ovary was discovered during routine scan. Decision was made by her IVF team to postponed the fresh embryo transfer to a frozen transfer. 

The treatment

Patient received eight weekly acupuncture treatments for one cycle to support her OHSS associated symptoms and gradually was able to sleep better and feeling calmer. 

The outcome

Her follow up scan showed she was good to go after and had a successful frozen embryo was conducted with no issue. Patient reported a good scan at 13 weeks.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine for secondary infertility


The patient

Full time working mum of one struggled to conceive again. She suffered from extreme fatigue, lower back pain, low moods, stress related digestive issues, frequent night urination (2/3 times a night) disturbing sleep, poor sleep quality and circulation. 

Treatment plan

Focus on strengthen the digestion, improve energy level, release stress, boost Kidney energy which is vital in fertility. 

Progress of treatment

Week 1: reduced night urine to just once a night, no more feeling bloated after food, noticeable improvement on energy level. Patient couldn't lay flat on her back on the first visit due to back pain;

Week 2: Lower back pain had improved and patient was able to receive treatment comfortably on her back, able to sleep through the night without the need to get up for night urine;

Week 3: Improved circulation, patient no long felt cold. No longer feeling low. sleeping much better;

Week 4: Improved bowel movement, slight cramping pain over womb which also felt during first pregnancy;

Week 5: Patient reported a positive pregnancy test on day 29!

Acupuncture, herbal medicine and diary therapy for Paediatric Asthma management

Mother of a four year old boy sought help during the national COVID lockdown. The young patient had a history of severe asthmatic cough that would restrict his breathing. He had visited the A&E three times in three months since the start of the winter due to asthmatic attacks. He also has digestive issue and often complains about sensation of burning eyes.


Patient received a total number of three weekly sessions of acupuncture and took Chinese herbal medicine for two weeks. Dietary advice was given to the mother to follow after a review on his food diary. After the first session, patient stopped complaining about stomach pain after food and started having good regular bowel movements. There was also no more reports of burning eyes sensation. Patient had not reported any further asthmatic attack or breathing difficulty since. Paediatric massage advice was given to the mother to administer at home to help maintain treatment effect.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for Thyroid Nodule and Hyperthyroidism



The patient 

Mid aged female patient presented with difficulty in breathing, swelling glands with difficulty in swallowing, fast heart beat that prevented her from sleeping at night, toothache with very sensitive gums, swollen eyes, painful acne spots on the scalp and body. Scans and blood tests revealed 3.5cm nodule and high T4 level. Patient was feeling weak and had high level of anxiety. Her temperature was also at around 37.5 constantly. 

Treatment and outcome 

Patient received weekly acupuncture treatments took herbal medicine at the same time. After two weeks, her heart rate reduced from 100 to 85 and was able to sleep at night. Her appetite returned at week 3, symptoms of swollen eyes and neck disappeared by week 5, toothache and sensitive gums stopped in week 6. A further blood tests confirmed her T4 level had returned to normal level.

Acupuncture for Sciatica

The patient

72 year old male patient presented with sudden onset of left side sciatica pain extending to calf and ankle. Patient experienced very high level of constant pain and could not sleep. His m


obility was also affected, patient had to stop his daily walks and driving. Prescribed painkillers provided temporary pain relief. Patient was generally well and active with no previous history of sciatica problem. 

Treatment

Patient received three weekly sessions of acupuncture treatments and was advised to wear under-layer and thick socks to keep warm.

Treatment outcome

Patient experienced immediate pain relief at the first session and gradually was able to sleep for longer hours undisturbed. After the third visit, patient had no pain at all and was able to enjoy his regular walks again.


General advice

It is advisable for patients to keep warm when having a bad sciatica flare up, i.e. cover hips with long line jacket when going outside, wear long socks that cover ankles properly rather than trainer socks and cover feet with socks and indoor shoes when at home. The warmth will improve circulation and aid recover.
